Who here has tried a period cup?
If you're anything like me it can be a bit of a daunting idea so I've summarised my own experience in four very real life stages:
1) No Way Never!
I'll be honest when I first heard of them a few years ago that was my reaction. It was a completely new concept to me and I simply didn't get it and certainly didn't want to try it.
2) OK let me think about it.
Several years later as I was reducing my single use plastics I figured it was time to revisit them and give it a go. So I did my research and picked the OrganiCup (also known as AllMatters) It is one of the leading brands when it comes to period cups so I knew I was in safe hands.
3) Eek. Time to try.
I was a little hesitant at first. Will it hurt? Is it messy? Will it be uncomfortable? But I persevered and gave it a go.
Turns out it doesn't hurt, it's not messy and once it's in you can't even feel it.
4) Woop woop. Wish I'd done this years ago.
It took a couple of months to get use to it and I did rely on tampons as an alternative when I wasn't feeling the period cup love. But by the third month I was a total convert. It has saved me lots of £'s over the last few years and coupled with my foldable sterilising cup it's easy to change when I'm out and about too. This is also my cup for sterilising between uses.
I genuinely wish I'd done this years ago.
